The Story of Our South Indian Grill “Sutta Kari” translates to charred meat  but in Tamil homes, it means much more.

It is the food of open flames.
Of roadside grills glowing red at dusk.
Of families gathering around smoke and spice.In Tamil Nadu, Sutta Kari is often cooked outdoors  over coal, wood, or open fire, where meat is marinated deeply in chilli, crushed garlic, black pepper, fennel, and curry leaves before meeting flame. The result is not just heat  but smoke, caramelisation, and intensity. At Dosa Kitchen, we honour this tradition with our South Indian Grill.

Our Sutta Kari is marinated for hours sometimes overnight  allowing the spices to penetrate fully. When it touches the grill, the transformation begins. The marinade seals. The edges char.

The smoke rises.The outside develops a beautiful crust  bold and fiery  while inside remains tender and succulent. It is not the creamy tandoori style of the North. It is sharper. Earthier. More rustic. More honest.

osa Kitchen began with one simple idea — to share the rich, fragrant, and soulful food of South India with the people of Northeast England. Born from a pop-up concept rooted in passion and authenticity, we now stand proudly in Jesmond as a destination for genuine South Indian flavours. Our founders, two passionate food lovers, married centuries-old recipes with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The result? A bustling Indian canteen where every dish is handcrafted with heart  many of which are naturally vegan or gluten-free without being anything less than delicious. From our crisp dosas and soulful sambar to our colourful tiffin and Sunday Sapaad feasts, we celebrate community, quality ingredients and the joy of sharing great food.
